It is essential that potential attendees clarify, in advance of attendance, insurance arrangements to utilise dry needling post completion of course with their insurance provider / broker. My own insurer as a trainer/lecturer is Balens. Most sports therapists, neuromuscular therapists, physical therapists, athletic rehabilitators, chiropractors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and doctors will find that your existing insurer will provide cover.

PURPOSE

To introduce the therapist to the theoretical and practical skills required to apply needling in a safe and effective manner. General aims… course introduces student to:

  • The neurophysiology of dry needling

  • The up to date physiology of pain pathways

  • Safety and contraindications

  • Technique and application of needling to major joints and treatment protocols

SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Obtain a background in the history of acupuncture.

  • Understand the mechanics of how dry needling is effective.

  • Understand the neurological pathways that dry needling affects.

  • Understand the ways in which pain pathways become sensitised and how nerve pain can be treated.

  • Understand how the endocrine and immune systems have roles in pain modulation.

  • Be aware of the contraindications and dangers of dry needling, and be clear on what areas to avoid.

  • Revision of trigger point location and physiology.

  • The student will be able to locate and needle anatomical points in the wrist, elbow, shoulder, ankle, knee, neck and lower back.

ASSESSMENT

Tutoring and supervision with careful emphasis on safety and patient care throughout the weekend.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Certificate of attendance and specific supervision of point insertion.

GRADING

Not required.

21 Hours over the 3 day course. Home study: 5 research papers with 3 hours study.
